28 words penned in black ink on a sheet of bright golden yellow stock. Signed “Best wishes / Hendrik Willem van Loon.” The sheet is slightly bumped with some very light creasing. The top edge is very slightly chipped with a small piece of scotch tape adhering to either end. Folded twice for mailing.
“You might tell your Pa and Ma that there is free board and a free stable for them here should they decide to guide their Duesenberg this way.” No addressee is included in the letter.
Hendrik Willem van Loon (1882-1944) was a Dutch-born American writer, journalist and illustrator. He was the author of “The Story of Mankind”, a children’s guide to world history, for which he won the first Newbery Medal in 1922.
