Product Description

ROBERT STRAUSS He signs an autograph note to radio/TV interviewer George Sanders Autograph Note signed: “Bob Strauss”, 7¾x8½ irregularly cut album leaf. Newspaper clipping and photo of Strauss (b/w, 1×1) in blank lower margin. “For George”, in full: “As to yet who has to praise what the conversation was resolved to be – to wit – well anyhow – here’s looking forward to our first interview. So there. Good luck”. On verso is an autograph note fragment signed “Jeri South”. Removal of the top edge from Strauss’ note has removed half the signature and part of the note of Jeri Southern’s ANS on verso. Remainder reads: “George/OK if you/meander – but/[don’t?] to too far away/My very best/always.” Captioned magazine photo (b/w, 2½x2½) of Jeri Southern to lower right. The memorable roles of ROBERT STRAUSS (1913-1975) include Animal in Stalag 17 (Broadway and film versions), Schwiefka in The Man with the Golden Arm, and Romeo Scragg in L’il Abner. The actor excelled in both comic and menacing roles. His Stalag 17 performance earned an Oscar nomination as Best Supporting Actor. Classically trained in voice and piano, JERI SOUTHERN (1915-1991) gained fame singing jazz, pop standards and show tunes, specializing in sultry “torch songs.” Tired of the record industry, she retired from singing in 1961. Ink notations in lower corners. Unevenly toned where other clippings were removed. Strauss ANS in fine condition, Southern’s regrettably incomplete. – Please contact us if you have any questions or require additional information. DOCUMENT 26115
